Sidescroll.xp is a game I made to prototype 2D sidescroll mechanics similar to Donkey Kong Country. My goal was to create one proof of concept level with the same sense of speed, responsiveness and difficulty as a typical DKC level. Overall I'm happy with how this turned out, but would definitely like to come back to it for polish and adding features in the future. 

Some things I might add if I spend more time on it: 

  • Objects to throw(Similar to barrels)
  • Switching characters mid-game
  • Secret areas
  • More Levels
  • More varied enemies

Known issues: 

  • Camera loses correct traction sometimes.
  • Bug where sometimes jumping on a flying enemy will launch indefinitely when jump was not pressed.
  • Roll animation playing delayed or getting stuck.

Controls:

Keyboard:

  • A/D/Left/Right - Move
  • Space - Jump (You can jump out of a sprint even if airborne)
  • Shift - Roll/Sprint

Controller (I used a snes controller)

  • DPad - Move
  • B - Jump (You can jump out of a sprint even if airborne)
  • Y - Roll/Sprint
